Besides the needed
sewer system rebuild, Pass
Christian's local government faces many other difficulties. One
happens to be public works equipment.
Dump Trucks
– Pass Christian's four dump trucks, five excavators, four back hoes and
other mechanical equipment were destroyed in Katrina. Our local
municipality has been unable to recover the loss of the
equipment since the hurricane.
Our Rotary friends in Truckee, California gave us our first
dump truck. They drove it here with a load of Douglas Fur in 41
hours. They asked that a few of these timbers be used in every
home that we built, as California’s contribution to the
home. The photos above were taken the day the truck arrived. The
ladies in the photo are women who part of the Mennonite Disaster
Services, who have helped so much in the rebuilding of the homes
for needy people.
A
Reverse International Grant from Canada and Northern Maine has
been approved by Rotary International for funding of a second
dump truck. We anticipate being able to purchase this equipment
this spring 2008. A dump truck is one work vehicle that all
communities need. |
