After Hurricane Katrina
Life after any disaster is different for everyone.
Some people never return to the site of the event, some
cannot leave, some have physical and mental problems which may continue
the rest of the days, and some rebuild their lives and careers.
Hans Christian Anderson wrote a story about the mythical
bird, The Phoenix in the 19th century. The Phoenix
symbolizes rebirth and was the inspiration for members of the The Pass
Christian Rotary Club, who chose this web site's name, "Pass
Christian Rises". They also have another theme, "The
Little Club that Can". How fitting both of these phrases
that fit the work of the Pass Christian Rotarians and especially D.H.
Short II, M.D. DH has made this his personal crusade to see a
rebirth in his community that covers many avenue of life. From
needy people, to education--libraries and literacy, municipal equipment
to serve the public better, a restroom in the park and rebuilding
destroyed sewage lines that will no longer pollute the potable water and
environment, equipment for the new police station, a playground for
handicapped children and a senior wellness center, and a community
center that will make the word "community" again come to The Pass.
All of these and more events from other groups are all
part of post Katrina. The following pages will provide you with more
information.
With out other human compassion, the good work of the
Rotarians from The Pass may stop. If you read this page, please
tell others and let's keep the spirit of "Pass Christian Rises" and "The
Little Club that Can" working to reach its OBJECTIVE--"organized and
well planned programs that will be cost effective and provide maximum
output for funds received." and achieve their FOCUS/GOAL--"To support
humanitarian and economic needs for post Katrina relieve for needy
citizens and community services toward a revitalized and sustainable new
Pass Christian, Mississippi." |
